With my duel interest in figuration and cityscape, moving to New York in 2021 was one of the biggest steps I’ve ever taken in my practice. I never fully disengage from my artistic practice, constantly scanning the city for sources of inspiration. For field researchers engaged in ethnography, there is never a moment that the research stops, no minor interaction or expression that might not reveal deep meaning. Through examining my observations and interactions in my paintings, I become an ethnographer of my own life. My research questions have followed me across the country and into my studio, and New York City is the perfect arena to explore them.
